  • $600 buys food for a week and clothing for a family of four.

  • $300 buys five days of meals and motel stays for one displaced disaster victim.

  • $250 provides emergency shelter and food for 50 disaster victims for one day.

  • $100 buys replacement prescription medication, like insulin, blood pressure or seizure medication for 3 disaster victims who have lost everything.

  • $50 buys 10 new blankets in an emergency.

Donations of In-Kind Products

The Red Cross is unable to accept small, individual donations or collections of items such as clothing, food or cleaning supplies. The cost to sort, package and distribute these types of donations to disaster victims is almost always greater than the cost of purchasing the items locally, and it is logistically impossible to distribute a wide variety of individual items in a meaningful way. Because of these cost and logistical concerns, we recommend that you support your community by donating these items to an organization that is equipped to put them to the best possible local use.

Did you know that there are many charitable giving options? you can:

  • Name the American Red Cross in your will
  • Designate the American Red Cross as a beneficiary of your retierement plan/IRA
  • Designate the American Red Cross as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy
  • Create a life income arrangement such as a charitable gift annuit or charitable trust
  • Create a testamentary trust
  • Give a gift of securities
