The American Red Cross

Michigan's Overall Blood Supply: LOW LEVEL

TYPE O+    1 DAY 21 HOUR SUPPLY:  LOW LEVEL

TYPE O-     2 DAY 7 HOUR SUPPLY:  LOW LEVEL

The American Red Cross is contending with increasing holiday travel and winter weather accidents.  A car crash victim may need 4 to 100 units of blood. The Red Cross considers a 3 day supply adequate for meeting the basic needs of hospitals and emergency treatment blood needs; a 5 to 7 day supply is optimal for responding to a disaster.

 Upcoming Blood Drives

Just 6% of our population donates blood while only 36% are eligible to give. To donate blood, you must be 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds, and be in general good health.  You must bring a donor card or photo ID to donate.

Who in your community is saving lives?

Be Prepared

To be prepared for emergencies, keep a first aid kit in your home and in your automobile. Carry a first aid kit with you or know where you can find one when you are hiking, biking, camping or boating. Several different sizes of first aid kits are available. Stop in to the office located at 3425 Francis St. to see several options.

The Emergency Services Team is raising funds to cover the purchase of Red Cross Fleece Blankets to distribute during our responses to fires or other disaster related emergencies.

The Red Cross Polar Fleece which measures 54" x 72" (Twin Size) are soft, warm, machine wash & dry, with a large embroidered American Red Cross Logo.

Blankets are $10 each and make wonderful gifts.
