The South Central Michigan Red Cross Chapter Announces Historical Preservation Project
October 24, 2011, Jackson MI - The South Central Michigan American Red Cross Chapter is embarking on a historical preservation project. The Chapter was founded in 1917, and has a rich history of service delivery, volunteerism and community involvement.
Individuals who would like to share their memories as part of the Red Cross family (clients, volunteers, blood donors, staff or financial contributors) are encouraged to contact Shelly Hendrick, Executive Director of the Chapter. "We eagerly anticipate bringing to life the Chapter from the very beginning," said Shelly. "We hope that those from our two communities will share their experiences and contribute any archival items such as photos, uniforms or written materials."
Lynne Loftis, retired Executive Director of the Ella Sharp Museum, is volunteering as director of the preservation project. Oren Frank, Chapter volunteer, will also play a key role in project development. "The Red Cross has played such a critical role in our community including blood and disaster services not only locally, but through two major World Wars," said Lynn. "This will illuminate an important part of Jackson's history."
Volunteers will conduct an extensive research and catalogue process. Eventually, an exhibit will be unveiled at the Ella Sharp Museum.
To be a part of this endeavor, please call Shelly Hendrick, Executive Director at 517-782-9486 or shendrick@redcross-scmichigan.org.
